Due to popular demand I opened "Video Submissions" on August 23. Though it has only been 10 days, I am a little disappointed with the lack of response. If there is no longer any interest in Siquijor Videos I will abandon the idea and dedicate the allotted space to another project. As always, I welcome your input.

Some new entries have been made to the 2007 Philippine holiday calendar that is accessible in the "Misc" page.
I urge all Siquijor residents to fully cooperate with the population census currently in progress. The last nationwide census was conducted in 2000. Siquijor's population is projected to be 89,000. According to the NSO officials, the government uses census information as a basis for creating programs, the creation of districts, the upgrading of local government units, and for proper distribution of resources. Business and industries, on the other hand, use census information to know where to establish certain kinds of enterprises, and to identify a number of potential employees in an area.

The family of CarmeñaLuz (Bebe, Carmen) Yurong Miraflor regrets to inform you of her passing, Tuesday May 22, 2007 at Stanford Hospital where she was undergoing treatment for Leukemia. Per her wishes, no funeral service will be held and her cremated remains will be taken to Lazi, Siquijor, Philippines where she was born and lived before immigrating to the United States.
Carmen was a friend of mine and to this website. She never hesitated to offer me assistance and guidance. I will sincerely miss her. Perhaps her family said it best "Goodbye to a fearless leader; a visionary; an amateur agriculturist; an art lover; a traveler; an amateur writer; a theatre lover (musicals, opera, ballet); a passionate reader; an amateur painter; a lover of jazz, classical and bisaya (particularly the harana) music; a good cook; a friend; a mentor; an advocate for the protection of the environment; a woman who loved life and whose heart was always in Siquijor and its people."
A notice has been placed in the MySiquijor.com obituary notices as well as a tribute to Carmen by family members.

Remember to observe Independence Day on June 12th. The Philippine Revolution took a tortuous and bloody route to reach the declaration of Philippine Independence on June 12, 1898, and the creation and convening of the Malolos Congress and the inauguration of the First Philippine Republic on January 23, 1899. The entire Filipino nation and Filipino communities all over the world celebrate Independence Day every 12th of June. For 14 years Filipinos celebrated Independence Day every July 4, which is also the USA’s Independence Day.

The MySiquijor.com Links page has been updated with a new link to the Siquijor Island Improvement Foundation Corp. (SIIFC) is a non-stock, non-profit and non-political organization with the objective to improve the quality of the medical care on the island. It is formed by a group of volunteers (both Filipino and Foreign), who are also members of the committee. It was founded in March 2007 and is certified by the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission.
I had the distinct pleasure of becoming acquainted with most of the committee members while attending one of their initial meetings during my last stay on the island. I assure you that they are absolutely sincere in their commitment to improve the quality of medical care available on the island. Though I fully intend to continue the MySiquijor.com Medical Campaign in the very near future, those familiar with the Siquijor medical facilities can well comprehend the need for a more extensive approach. Coupling the SIIFC's concept of soliciting for donations with that of MySiquijor.com should truly provide a global effort in our goal. MySiquijor.com commends SIIFC for its intent and offers its full endorsement.
