St. Francis of Assisi Church (Restoration Project) |
St. Francis of Assisi Church
(Municipality of Siquijor, Siquijor)

(The interior restoration project has been completed. Thank you for your support)
Topping the list of Siquijor’s many treasures are its centuries-old Catholic churches. Siquijor became the first parish to be established on the island and was under the administration of the diocese of Cebu. It is known that the St. Francis of Assisi church was the sole Catholic Church on the island until the middle of the 19th century. Positioned to welcome today’s travelers arriving via the Siquijor Pier, the St. Francis of Assisi church has stood devoutly for centuries since being built by Spaniards. The preservation of the Siquijor Churches offers visitors a portrayal of the island’s roots.
Based on a decision that was made by the Parish Pastoral Council along with the recommendation of the Bishop of the Diocese of Dumaguete, the St. Francis of Assisi Church recently underwent repairs and restoration in an effort to preserve its magnificent beauty for all to appreciate in the years to come. A committee was formed to oversee the restoration of the main altar and Sacristy. To be certain not to compromise the original splendor, the committee hired a contractor from Cebu that specializes in restoration work to complete the project.
Also a project to restore the Bell Tower and the Altar Partition is scheduled for the near future. A local construction company will be utilized for this project.
