The Department of Education Vision (DepEd)

We are people organization committed to a culture of excellence in public service. Believing that the most important resource of our country is its people, we make the task of educating the Filipino child our singular mission.

We assist the Filipino child to discover his/her full potential in a child-centered and value-driven teaching-learning environment and thereby, enable him/her to create his/her own destiny in global community. We prepare him/her to become a responsible citizen and an enlightened leader who loves his/her country and is proud to be a Filipino.

    We provide a school system
      * Where teachers and principals achieve the desired learning outcome not only because they are empowered, competent and accountable, but because they care;

     * Where administrator exercise visionary leadership responsive to emerging learning needs of the nation; ensure adequate resources; promote appropriate technology; create and sustain a conducive climate to enhance learning; and
     * Where the family, the community and other institutions actively support our efforts.

We affirm the right of every Filipino child especially the less advantaged to benefit from such a system.  This is our vision. With God’s help, we dedicate all our talents and energies to its realization.

The DepEd Mission

To provide quality basic education that is equitably accessible to all and lay the foundation for life-long learning and service for the common good.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, CULTURE AND SPORTS

The Schools Division of Siquijor is comprised of 49 complete public elementary, 7 public primary and 14 public secondary schools.

The enrollment for SY 2003 is as follows:

PTCA Preschool: 717

                                                                             Public Elementary:  11,391

       Public Secondary:  5,217

    Private Preschool:  351

     Private Elementary:  77

         Private Secondary:  2,38

The Division of Siquijor networks with other government line agencies in the province.  It collaborates with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the province's pet project popularly known as "Greening Siquijor".  Through the Revitalized Tree Planting and Greening Program (RTGP) of the Department of Education (DepEd), vacant spaces in every school are utilized into pocket of forests or wood lots.  This is an on-going project in the Division of Siquijor.

The Division of Siquijor spearheads the SOLILI FESTIVAL, a competition of wedding dance rituals, which serves as the cultural attraction and the highlight of the weeklong Siquijor Charter Day celebration.  The majority of the members of the SOLILI Dance Troupe from each of the six municipalities are school heads, teachers, students, and non-teaching employees of the Department of Education.  The key officials of the Division of Siquijor coordinates with the Provincial Cultural Committee not only in the selection of the judges for the SOLILI Dance Competition but also in the various activities relevant to the SOLILI FESTIVAL.

The Division of Siquijor cooperates with the Provincial Tourism Council in promoting the culture and the tourist attractions of the Island Paradise of Siquijor.  In November 2003 the Province of Siquijor Cultural Troupe joined the other troupes of Central Visayas in their grand cultural performances at WOW Philippines in Intramuros, Metro Manila.  Several school heads and teachers from the public schools in the Division of Siquijor were actively involved in those live performances.  This illustrates that DepEd - Division of Siquijor is ever-ready and more than willing to play its greatest role in promoting a positive image of the Island Province of Siquijor.  Not only by means of advocacy but also through active participation in various cultural presentations.

LAZI SKILLS DEVELOPMENT CENTER

(LSDC)

I recently had the pleasure of meeting three students from the  Lazi Skills Development Center.  They were receiving "on the job training" at a local Siquijor resort.

I was quite impressed with their level of professionalism and their willingness to learn; especially considering their young age.

If LSDC's other students are of a similar caliber...the teachers are to be commended.
