Bona Pelo Salon

In the "Around Siquijor 2007" I featured The Bona Pelo Salon owned by Aida and Edgar (Bong) Ventura. The Bona Pelo Salon has expanded and now offers the same service to both men and women in Larena and Siquijor town.  The Salons are located above the public markets at both locations.  See "Around Siquijor 2007" for additional information.  The photos below are of their new Larena location.  I love to see Siquijor businesses prosper and grow!  For more information contact 09193965557 or 09184885566.

Island Melody Band

I had the very distinct pleasure of hearing this talented group of musicians when I attended the Governor's birthday party a couple of years ago.  Having a musical background, I usually tend to be somewhat critical when I listen to local musicians.  I was amazed with the level of talent that this group possesses. They are truly professional artists and I would not hesitate to compare them to a group out of Chicago, Miami, etc.   The vocal quality is equal to the musicianship; fantastic!  Though they do accept requests, don't bother.  They have a repertoire that is almost sure to please.

During my stay on the island I decided that I wanted to celebrate my birthday in style and I could not think of a better way than by having this 10 piece-musical group perform.  And, perform is exactly what they did...at the highest level.  My only regret was not having my better digital camera charged and ready to capture the memories.

I urge anyone on the island that wants to have a party to contact them and let your guests dance the night away.

Al Capone's Pizzeria

Location: Marjunnix Bldg. Logarta St.

Poblacion Siquijor, Siquijor

Owner: Chris Sorensen

Phone: (035) 344-2260

When I discovered this new business I nearly fell to my knees to thank the Good Lord for answering my prayers of having a real pizzeria on the island.  Chris and his team know how to make REAL pizza!  I consumed several pizzas during my visit as well as a Philly Cheese Steak  and I was never disappointed.  I was also thankful that foreigners on the island now had a place to not only consume REAL pizza but also enjoy a cold beer with their meals.  The next time that you are in Siquijor Town drop by and treat yourself to a little slice of heaven.

AQUAbtye

Dumanhog, Siquijor

Cell: 09206193885

AQUABYTE WATER REFILLING station is located next to the National Highway at Barangay Dumanhog, Siquijor, Siquijor. This business opened April 30, 2008 and I believe think that it will be very successful.  It is owned by Bigbyte Enterprises.  Aside from its good taste, the safeness of AQUABYTE PURIFIED WATER is due to the 16-stage state-of-the-art reverse osmosis purification process.  AQUAbtye is currently providing water to resorts, restaurants, offices, and individuals.  They even have a "lease to own" program for their water dispensers and containers on an installment basis.  AQUAbyte is making a big splash on the island.

Butterfly Sanctuary

The Siquijor Butterfly Sanctuary, owned and operated by Dante Jumapit, was launched in September of 2008 at Cang-Apa, Larena, Siquijor.  This project provides a multitude of benefits.  It repopulates the dwindling population of butterflies on the island, educates via a natural classroom, promotes environmental awareness, and much more.

I readily admit that my tour of the sanctuary gave me more information about butterflies than I ever thought possible. This is a privately owned project and I sincerely admire his dedication.

For reasons beyond his control, Dante is being forced to purchase a different parcel of land and move the sanctuary to a new location.  This venture is too important to simply allow it to die  as has happened before.  I strongly encourage everyone to visit this remarkable project and to make a generous donation if possible.  Take the tour and you be the judge.
