Instant Bananas

Tuba Beach, San Juan

6227 Siquijor

Philippines

Phone: (63) 921-810-3199

Owner: Richard Whitehouse

The first thing that catches your attention is the water-wheel in front of the store.  Through a simple but unique system of sprockets and chains, the water-wheel operates the grill rotisserie.  I had the opportunity to taste the chicken and found it to be quite delicious.  The Instant Banana has cold beer and various snacks and other items for sale in store area.

The main feature at the Instant Banana is the 26 foot boat (Carolyn).  The boat has two glass-bottom viewing boxes enabling the passengers to see beneath the surface.  The boat is constructed with ½” plywood and mahogany with fiberglass making it a very strong vessel. With a capacity of ten people, Carolyn is well equipped with safety equipment.  Stop by and see Richard for the details on his charter boat tours.

Canoan Jet (Siquijor Ferries)

The Canoan Jet is owned and operated by Siquijor Ferries Incorporated.  It made its maiden voyage in late April of 2006.  The craft was built in Japan and then refurbished in the Philippines.  This now gives travelers another option for the Dumaguete – Siquijor route.  I was allowed to board the Canoan Jet while it was still undergoing renovation while docked at the Larena Pier.  I was impressed with both the boat and the crew.  I am certain that this will serve as a plus for the island.

Kapanig Island Fresh Milk

Cangmunag, San Juan, Siquijor

I visited this relatively new business in early 2006.  I was impressed with their dedication and hard work.  They are currently producing REAL cow milk in several flavors; Vanilla, Manga, etc.  They are servicing participating resorts on the island on a regular basis.  I had the pleasure of sampling some of their product and found it to be a refreshing change from the normal milk product available in the Philippines.  I was told that they had at that time approximately 50 cows involved in their operation.  They only thing that I could criticize about their business was the fact that they were not wearing sanitary gloves and footwear; they assured me that they would from that point on.
